Teeming with life, Durbar Square is Kathmandu’s greatest tourist attractions. Here Kathmandu’s kings were crowned, lived and worshipped. Of the 50+ monuments the most famous is the Kumari Bahal, the richly decorated home to the Royal Kumari, Living Goddess and manifestation of the great goddess Durga. The 14th century Jagannath Mandir is the oldest temple in the area and nearby the Telaju Mandir is dedicated to the patron deity of the royal family, a wrathful form of Durga who once demanded human sacrifices. "First stop this morning is Boudhanath; one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. Before construction of the 118-foot stupa, the site was visited by every Tibetan merchant passing through Nepal. For centuries they rested here and offered prayers to Lord Buddha. Next visit Pashupatinath, one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world dedicated to Lord Shiva. Originally built in AD400. Inside the temple is the statue of a four-faced six-foot lingam, a phallic object as a symbol of Shiva, resting in the middle of a rimmed, disc-shaped structure, phallic symbol of Shakti – a concept or personification of divine feminine creative power. These are symbols of creation and that blessings of Shiva can be found in all four directions. This monument is a fine display of religious harmony in the country. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bhaktapur is a brilliant illustration of Newari architectural skills, a city of pagoda roofs and harmonious blend of wood, mudbrick and copper – especially notable is the Nyatapola Temple (Palace of 55 Windows). Many locals continue to practice traditional crafts and you will join a pottery class to try your hand at replicating some of these marvels."
The distance between Kathmandu and Pokhara is around 205 Km and driving hours approximately around 6 hours. Leaving Kathmandu city on one of the country's busiest road may be slow, but as we leave the city on the Tribhuwan National Highway, the views are impressive. For first hour of the drive, the road are winding and downhill and then continue along the Trishuli River. As we cross the Mugling Bridge, our drive passes through Marshyangdi Hydroelectric Powerhouse as well as villages with typical Nepalese house backed by steep rice terrace and mountain beyond. As we approach Pokhara Valley, we will again be welcomed mighty Annapurna Range Himalayas and Seti River.
Early morning you will drive to Nayapul from Pokhara in a private vehicle. From here you will follow the river and hike through dense forests taking a scenic route to Syauli Bazaar where you will stay overnight.
From Ghandruk to Chhomrong, the highest permanent settlement in the valley, the trek gradually climbs to Deurali before dropping to cross Kimrung Khola. Beginning the day with a gentle uphill climb for about an hour, you will reach Kimrung Danda. The views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and Machhapuchhre peaks are awe-inspiring. Descend steeply to Kimrung Khola. Ascend to Chhomrong, a Gurung village at the base of Hiunchuli Himal. There is a tremendous view of Annapurna South from here. After another steep climb from Kimrung Khola to Chere Danda, you will descend for a short while and then a brisk walk to Chhomrong, the gateway to Annapurna Sanctuary trek. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located in the lap of the giant Annapurna and inhabited by the ethnic Gurung tribe.
Today, you will begin your day with a gentle descent on a stone staircase to Chhomrong Khola and across a suspension bridge. Then it is an ascent through a beautiful forest to reach Sinuwa village. Continue through dense bamboo forest to reach Kuldighar and descend towards the aptly named Bamboo. Continue along the trail to Dovan.
Today’s trail passes through dense bamboo and rhododendron forest and, along one stretch, passes the remains of several avalanches. You will have occasional views of the Annapurnas and Machhapuchhre ahead, but often the forest is too thick to allow more than a tantalizing glimpse. After descending a stone staircase to a section of exceptionally thick bamboo forest, you climb steeply through bamboo and rhododendron, following the trail high above the river to days’ end at Himalaya Hotel.
You’ll wake up and have breakfast in Machhapuchhre Base Camp and then set out for Annapurna Base Camp. Any living vegetation that you may have encountered on previous days will likely be replaced with snow, rocks, and boulders. Dress warm and take the trail slowly so you can acclimatize to the higher elevation. The path widens as you enter the Annapurna Sanctuary, follows a stream, and then continues uphill. You’ll enjoy a rewarding finish with unobstructed views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna south, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, and other peaks.
After a mesmerizing sunrise and a warm breakfast, you will retrace your step to Bamboo, a downhill trek, obviously an easy one. Waking up before sunrise, we take in the magnificent view as the sun’s rays hit the Himalayas. This is a photographic opportunity beyond comparison. Then after our breakfast , we return to Bamboo. Walking downhill is easier but with a drop of 2,000 meters over 6-7 hours, watch out for shaky legs! Walking alongside beautiful glaciers and through the forests, we arrive at Bamboo at the end of the day. Passing bamboo and rhododendron forests and witnessing stunning views, you will reach Bamboo.
Begin your trek towards Jhinu Hotsprings. The first part of the route is descending back to Chhomrong then you will climb for a bit then again downhill through forests and villages. Reaching Jhinu relax in a series of hot spring fed pools deep in the Modi Khola Canyon. The three main pools are different temperatures so try them all and, during busier times of the year snacks and a well-deserved beer can be purchased.
Today, your day will start gradually descending towards Nayapul. On the way you will pass through villages with scenic views of Annapurna. Arriving at Nayapul your private transportation will be waiting for drive you to Pokhara.
You will be picked up from the hotel and driven to Pokhara domestic airport. It is approximate 25 minutes flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. After picking up from Kathmandu airport you will be driven to your booked hotel.
"Patan Durbar Square is surrounded by a fascinating array of temples, built in various architectural manners, varies from the era of its establishment. Patan Durbar Square is a home of numerous temples like Krishna Mandir, Bhimsen Mandir, Taleju Bell and much more, which displays Gods and Humans, in Nepal, have always lived with next to each other since long-long time ago. All the temples of the Patan Durbar Square are decorated with the samples of the masterpiece of Nepalese handicrafts; according to the Newari architecture. The city is built on Newari cultural perspectives, thus, the city envelopes the pride of Newari cultural history. A classic Newari village, Bungamati has rows of brick houses lining streets paved with flagstones. The village is the winter residence of the Rain God as well as being justifiably famous for the significant number of skilled woodcarvers among its inhabitants. Nearby is another ancient Newari village, Khokana ,which has earned quite a reputation for its mustard oil made in the traditional ways of oil pressing. If you come across somebody with a weathered face carrying two tin drums hanging at the two ends of a pole across his shoulders in the old marketplaces of Kathmandu, it is likely that he is from Khokana and in town to sell mustard oil. A half day exploring these 2 villages will be one of the most genuine experiences of traditional life in the Kathmandu Valley you will find. "
